The Instituto Cultural Brasil Estados Unidos, ICBEU,
is a not-for-profit cultural civil society, declared as of municipal, state and federal
public interest. Founded in 1949, it has as its purpose, teaching and promoting cultural
exchange between Brazil and the United States.
In 1969, ICBEU got its own permanent headquarters,
at 1723, Bahia St., close to "Praça da Liberdade," in one of the noblest points
of Belo Horizonte. ICBEUs site is of easy access, served by the main bus lines and
avenues.
ICBEUs building was specially designed by the
architect and professor Sylvio de Vasconcellos to be the headquarters of the Institute,
comprising 41 classrooms distributed in its 4 floors. The premises also include a theater
with 268 seats, a conference room with room for 80 people, an art gallery and a library
with a collection of 14 thousand books and the main newspapers from Brazil and the United
States. |
