GENERAL INFORMATION
The Michigan Certificate Examinations are developed
and produced by the Testing and Certification Division of the English Language Institute
of the University of Michigan (ELI-UM) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Each year a new form
of each examination is produced for administration to individuals who want a certificate
as evidence of their competency or proficiency in English. Any interested person may
attempt either exam. There is no set course, syllabus, or prescribed program of English
language study to be taken in preparation for either of these exams. The language used in
these examinations is standard American English.
WHERE, WHEN AND HOW OFTEN THE TESTS ARE ADMINISTERED
The Examinations are administered once a year in
different countries around the world at ELI-UM's authorized Test Centers, which work in
collaboration with ELI-UM staff. Examinees may take either test only once a year. (See the
list of cities where the exams are given) The ECCE and ECPE are administered at different
times in the year. After examinations are administered, examination papers are sent to
ELI-UM where the tests are scored, results are determined and certificates are prepared.
Certificates are then sent to the Test Centers for distribution.
Individuals who wish to take a Michigan Certificate
Examination register for the exam at Test Centers in their home country that have been
authorized to conduct Michigan Certificate Examinations. Not all Test Centers offer both
examinations. Some administer only the ECPE and some offer both the ECCE and ECPE.
The cost of taking a Michigan Certificate
Examination varies from country to country depending on local costs. The appropriate fee
for a Michigan Certificate Examination is paid directly to the Test Center conducting the
Examination.
THE RESULTS
ELI-UM reports examination results to the Test
Centers a few months after the test. Each examinee's performance on the various sections
of the examination is reported to the appropriate Test Center. Examinees who are
successful receive a certificate that is distributed by the Test Center.
If the original certificate should become lost or
destroyed, the individual should contact ELI-UM directly for a re-issue of the
certificate. The full name of the individual as it appeared on the certificate and the
date and location of the Examination must be provided to ELIUM. A fee is charged for this
service.
