ICBEU holds a partnership with the only exchange program in
the world recognized by the Organization of the United Nations (UN) the American Field Service (AFS).
AFS Intercultural Brasil
is member
of AFS Intercultural Programs, organization present in 53 countries in all the continents.
It stems from the voluntary service of ambulances destined to help victims of the great
world wars. The end of those wars didn't take from the volunteers the interest in the
maintenance of peace and the integration of people.
AFS Intercultural Programs was founded in
1947, with the purpose of promoting the ideals or respect, solidarity and citizenship
through the contact among people of different cultures. In Brazil, it has existed since
1956 and it has gathered more than 600 volunteers in 106 Local Committees.
The Belo
Horizonte Committee works in ICBEU-BH, with regular meetings on Saturdays, starting at
5:00 o'clock p.m. For further information, the interested ones should contact ICBEUs
Department of Communication and Cultural Activities.
The registrations and selection process for the AFS begin in the year
prior to the one of departure. The registrations generally open in March at the local
committees. The period of selection goes from April to July, when the final result is
reported to those who were approved.
Through the School Programs of AFS you can study in several countries,
get to know new cultures and try their habits and different customs.
