We are proud to announce that the annual examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English offered by the University of Michigan Language Institute will be given at INSTITUTO CULTURAL BRASIL-ESTADOS UNIDOS, Rua da Bahia 1723, Belo Horizonte, on November 21st 22nd.

The ECPE is a test of advanced English language proficiency, reflecting skills and content typically used in university or professional contexts. The ECPE assesses linguistic, discoursal, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic elements of the English language. Receptive and productive skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing) are evaluated through a combination of integrated and discrete tasks. The ECPE is aimed at the C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The Certificate of Proficiency in English is recognized in several countries as official documentary evidence of advanced proficiency in the English language and can be used for academic and professional purposes. The ECPE does not assess specific curricular content, nor does it assess or certify teaching ability.

Note that there is an optional mini exam called the “Preliminary Exam” for those who want to practice for the real ECPE and/or check their level to see if they might be able to pass it.

We are also offering a 5-hour intensive test preparatory training course called "Michigan Proficiency Crash Course", for those who would like to maximize their scores.

All people who are interested in receiving documentary proof of proficiency in English are encouraged to take this test. The number of places is limited so register early.

The time schedule is as follows:

October 27th through 31st - Registration for the Crash Course
November 1st through Nov. 14th - Registration open - 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM(Monday to Friday) and9:00 AM to 1:00 PM(Saturday)
November 3rd , 5th , 7th - Michigan Proficiency Crash Course
November 21st - ECPE Oral Examination – (by appointment made at registration)
November 22nd - ECPE Written Exam - 08:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This test is of particular interest to teachers of English, but is also useful to people who study English for cultural reasons, who wish to have certification as evidence of attainment, people who need English for employment, who wish to conduct business with English speaking firms, or who travel abroad.

Thus anyone interested is encouraged to come.
